More than ever before, Nigerian music is globally celebrated and acclaimed in contemporary times. From the campus radio stations in Germany to the clubs in England, Nigerian singers have become household names. But, how did we get here? This post attempts a chronological exploration of the development of Nigerian music from the colonial era, till date.

Fela was a musical tour de force during his lifetime. Considering the persistence in Nigeria of the social issues that he musically explored, this blog post identifies his work as a useful site and medium for gauging and evaluating Nigerian historical progression.
