Money & Music

The agency of money in the modern world can not be over-emphasized. It is the be-all and end-all. It is the yardstick by which human value and worth is measured, and sadly, by so doing, a social demarcation or caste-system is engendered which displaces, devalues and dehumanizes those at the bottom of the totem pole.

This trajectory stands as the main engine empowering classism across the world. This agent is at the core of family bifurcation where the moneyed are intentionally sought after and consulted while the unmoneyed are ignored, despised and undermined. In modernistic society, the essential human values which keeps the ecosystem in harmony and tranquility like kindness, integrity, uprightness, justice, truth, etc are negated and displaced by fiat currency.

It is no wonder society lies in a state of comatose energized by social dysfunction and evolutionary deterioration. Instead of a progressive pathway, humanity steadily devolves. A greater majority have passionately resolved to dedicate their life’s essence to the pursuit of money. This resolution has created a chain reaction like broken homes with absentee parents, whose absence has led to the emergence of a shocking wave of narcissistic children, who grow into adults and keep the cycle spinning.

The lust for money has bred greed, envy, jealousy, hate, and violence. The lust for money has motivated prostitution, money-laundering, the sale of justice to the highest bidder and dispense of injustice to the under-privileged. Even in everyday love relationships, the lust for money tilts the dynamic in favour of the money strong. But it is not always a guarantee for a strong, enjoyable and enriching relationship. There are many men and women, today, who wallow in misery because they downgraded the people who would have loved them. And their crime was the lack of riches and wealth, etc. If I ruled the world, I would abolish money. The fiat currency hoarders would be humbled and leveled upon the realization that they too, are on the same page as those they had previously undermined and subjugated. I would ensure that equity in the distribution of resources is normalized.

Money is a two-edged sword. While it enables access to memorable and pleasurable experiences, and engenders a great measure of personal comfort, it lacks the ability to provide pure joy, happiness and satisfaction in life. Money breeds parasitism and makes it difficult to truly discern those who truly love and care about us. Yes, that is the curse of money! With monetary abundance, one is surrounded by many friends and lovers, who are bound to leave when the money dissipates.

And over the years, some artistes have musicalized this subject. The first song on money that I ever heard was from ABBA. It was and still is classic and memorable. As usual, what follows is a playlist of songs about money.
